Gregan on brink of Leeds move

Leeds boss Kevin Blackwell hopes to complete the signing of West Brom’s Sean Gregan in time for Saturday’s trip to Crewe.

The 30-year-old former Baggies skipper will undergo a medical at United’s Thorp Arch training ground this afternoon.

“I’m hoping we can wrap that up in the next 24-48 hours,” confirmed Blackwell after watching his side secure their first away win of the season at Plymouth.

“And if we do it will be a very big addition to the club.”

The victory at Plymouth followed Saturday’s home victory over Coventry and indicated that Leeds are running into form, with their new players gelling under Blackwell.

Speaking on club website www.leedsunited.com, Blackwell said: “I don’t want us to rest on our laurels here, we’ve got to look to improve by bringing better players in.”

Blackwell has made no secret of his desire to bring Gregan, a former Darlington and Preston midfielder, to Elland Road.

And although Gregan is ready to make the switch, Leeds and West Brom have been some way apart with regards to a fee.

Gregan captained Gary Megson’s side to promotion last season but has since lost his foothold in the first team following the arrivals of Jonathan Greening from Middlesbrough and Japan’s Junichi Inamoto.
