Magpies on alert after Israel attacks

Newcastle were today monitoring the security situation in Israel after suicide bombers killed 16 people in attacks on two buses.

United, who are due to play the second leg of their UEFA Cup first round tie against BNEI Sakhnin in Tel Aviv on September 30, are maintaining close contact with the authorities following yesterday’s incidents in the southern city of Beersheba.

“We are monitoring the situation and are in touch with the FA, UEFA and the Foreign Office,” said a club spokesman.

Newcastle, currently searching for a new manager after sacking Bobby Robson on Monday, will welcome BNEI Sakhnin to St James’ Park for the first leg on September 16.
