Cash boost for League Cup finalists

Longford Town and Bohemians will have an extra incentive to succeed in Monday night’s eircom League Cup final after an increase in the prize fund was announced today.

Longford Town and Bohemians will have an extra incentive to succeed in Monday night’s eircom League Cup final after an increase in the prize fund was announced today.

The eircom League has decided to raise the overall prize fund by €4,000, with the winners in the Flancare Park decider now receiving €12,000.

The runners-up on Monday night will receive €6,000 with the prize money for both sides being awarded in addition to each club's share of the net revenue from gate receipts and programme sales.

This year’s losing semi-finalists Limerick and Finn Harps will each receive €1,500.

Pat Whelan has been chosen to referee thee 2004 final with fellow Dubliner Conor Fitzgerald and Roscommon’s Rhona Daly his assistants, while the fourth official is Paul Deering of Sligo.

The tie is to be decided on the night at Flancare Park with extra time and a penalty shoot-out in operation if required.
