Palmer set to start for Vikings
Former England international Carlton Palmer will be the centre of attention tonight when he makes his debut for Dublin City at Drogheda United (7.45pm).
The eircom League premier division’s bottom club have brought in 39-year-old Palmer to lead them out of the relegation zone but Roddy Collins’ new-look side have the stiffest of tests in which to begin their escape bid.
Drogheda can return to the top of the table if they win tonight but Collins believes Palmer can make the difference for the Vikings.
"Carlton is a tremendous professional and it's great to get him involved with Dublin City,” Collins said.
“He has loads of experience and he's just the type of quality player the club needs.
"He's in great shape and trains every day and he's a great asset to have. I'm sure he'll make a huge impression and he's settled in well with the rest of the lads."
Drogheda boss Paul Doolin has Steven Gray and John Lester suspended, and could call in Aidan Lynch in defence with Alan Reilly and Daryl Clare the likely contenders for Lester’s midfield spot.
Another midfielder in former Rochdale man Sean McClare was added to the mix this week and if he receives international clearance in time, the 26-year-old former Irish U21 international will be in the squad.
