D'Urso replaced

The Premier League have decided to replace referee Andy D’Urso for the Bank Holiday match between Manchester United and Everton on Monday.

Instead Dermot Gallagher will take over at Old Trafford as his Essex colleague faces a Football Association charge.

D’Urso yellow-carded Blackburn midfielder Barry Ferguson twice in the defeat by Southampton but failed to send him off.

Although the official mentioned his mistake in his report the FA have charged him with “less than proficiently applying the laws of the game”.

It is understood D’Urso has been replaced to take him out of the media spotlight.

The feeling is he would have difficulty retaining 100% focus given the outside factors surrounding his appearance.
