Drogheda sign McClare
eircom League high fliers Drogheda United have signed former Republic of Ireland Under-21 midfielder Sean McClare.
The English-born 26-year-old, who qualified for the Republic because of his Dublin-born mother, had been on trial at United Park having been released by English League Two side Rochdale during the summer.
Providing he receives international clearance, McClare, who also had spells at Barnsley and Port Vale, could make his debut at home to bottom side Dublin City on Friday night, a game in which former England midfielder Carlton Palmer is also set to make his eircom League bow for the visitors.
With premier division leaders Shelbourne inactive on the domestic front this weekend, a Drogheda win would see Paul Doolin’s side return to the top of the table.
