Lisbon Lion Bobby Murdoch’s European Cup winner’s medal and the last Celtic shirt worn by Henrik Larsson will go under the hammer next month.

Christie’s today confirmed that the items would be among the main attractions at its sale of football memorabilia in London, which will also feature the medal collection of former Aberdeen star Stewart McKimmie.

Murdoch, who died in 2001, was an attacking midfielder in the Celtic team which in 1967 became the first British side to win Europe’s top club prize.

His medal from the victory over Inter Milan in Lisbon was expected to fetch up to €18,000. Murdoch’s European Cup runners-up medal from the 1970 final also forms part of a collection.

Christie’s said three Scottish championship medals, four Scottish Cup winner’s medals and five League Cup medals will be sold alongside shirts and Scotland caps from his glittering career.

The shirt worn by modern-day Hoops legend Henrik Larsson in his Parkhead farewell match against Seville in May is expected to fetch up to €7,500.

The Swedish striker, who joined Barcelona after Euro 2004, scored 242 goals in 315 games during his seven years with Celtic.

The auction of football memorabilia will be held at Christie’s in South Kensington on September 21.
