Kenny saves Vikings' blushes
Dublin City 1 AFC Sudbury 1
Roddy Collins saw triallist Mark Kenny save Dublin City’s blushes with a goal against English non-League side AFC Sudbury.
The Tolka Park friendly had been hastily arranged when Shelbourne pulled out of their scheduled meeting with the East Anglian side owing to their Champions League commitments.
The Vikings, with a free weekend in their eircom League survival battle, stepped in to play Sudbury and must have regretted the decision when Paul Betson opened the scoring for the English non-League side in the 66th minute.
Up stepped Kenny, currently on Shamrock Rovers’ books, and playing the full 90 minutes, to send in a curling free-kick to prevent an unwelcome reverse as the game finished 1-1.
Collins, whose new charges face fellow strugglers Derry City next Thursday at Tolka, also ran the rule over defender Grant Cooper and left-sided defender Jamie Olsen while recent signing Peter Hynes linked with Gary O’Neill in attack.
