Fahy ousted in FAI Council vote

FAI president Milo Corcoran has succeeded in removing Kevin Fahy from his position as honorary Treasurer.

Corcoran proposed a motion to oust Fahy at a specially convened meeting of the FAI’s National Council at a Dublin hotel this afternoon.

The FAI president got the two-thirds majority he required having failed in a previous attempt to remove Fahy, not only from his position as honorary treasurer but from the National Council and Board of Management, under the FAI’s constitution.

Speaking after the meeting Corcoran said: “It was with regret that in my position as president I found it necessary for me to put the resolution before Council. My only motivation in doing so was the greater interest of football and the future of the game in Ireland.

“I felt I had no choice as President but to take this course of action and that I would have being failing in my role and duty as President of the FAI had I not done so."

Corcoran had claimed Fahy had impeded the business of the FAI's board of management because of the honorary treasurer’s inaccurate minuting of meetings.

Fahy had countered that he was being targeted for raising difficult issues to Corcoran and the board.

David Blood has taken over as Honorary Secretary until a permanent appointment is made by the National Council, the FAI said, although Fahy may still challenge the decision through legal channels.
