Waterford hit with two player suspensions
Injury-hit Waterford United have been dealt another blow following the latest round of suspensions issued by the eircom League.
A disciplinary commission meeting has handed out one-match bans to first-team defender David Mulcahy and midfielder Mark Clifford which means they will be unavailable for the FAI Cup clash with first division Kilkenny City on August 20.
Mulcahy reached four penalty points while Clifford’s suspension follows a sending off in the previous round against Sligo Rovers.
The punishments follow the two-match ban picked up earlier in the week by Irish Under-21 goalkeeper Dan Connor.
His sending off against Dublin City on July 15 means he will be unavailable for next weekend’s eircom League clash at Shamrock Rovers, just a week after returning from a one-match ban.
The Longford Town versus Shamrock Rovers FAI Cup tie on August 21 will see a player from each side suspended.
Rovers’ right-sided midfielder Shane Robinson misses out as a result of reaching eight penalty points while Longford midfielder Darragh Sheridan will be serving a one-match ban after collecting four penalty points.
Earlier in the week Shelbourne striker Jason Byrne was handed a one-match ban following his sending off against Drogheda United on July 18.
He will miss the live televised clash with Cork City on August 14.
Derry City midfielder Eamonn Doherty is in the same boat; his dismissal against Shamrock Rovers on July 17 resulting in a one-match ban which forces him out of the eircom League clash at Dublin City next Thursday.
