Ipswich striker makes u-turn on move

Ipswich striker Shefki Kuqi has put a proposed move to Bundesliga club Hansa Rostock on hold.

The 27-year-old Finland international was given permission to fly to Germany after Town agreed he could depart on a free transfer, but he dramatically changed his mind.

Manager Joe Royle, who confirmed he is stepping up his striker search, said: “We received an approach from Hansa Rostock about Shefki and we gave clearance for him to go and spend a few days in Germany and see how he gets on.

“He has decided to stay here, though, but it seems that if Rostock firm up their interest Shefki will talk to them about a permanent move.”

The former Stockport and Sheffield Wednesday star turned down a move to South Korean side Daewoo Royals last month, but it seems his Portman Road days are numbered.

Royle, who confirmed Ipswich would not be seeking a fee, said: “I am speaking to clubs about bringing in a striker. We need somebody who is better at keeping the ball up front.

"There’s always a possibility we could have someone new for Saturday, but on the other hand we could have to wait a bit. There are a number of players I am interested in, but there has always been one uppermost in my mind.”
