FA remain tight-lipped

The English Football Association tonight imposed a media blackout over the ‘Svengate’ affair.

The English Football Association tonight imposed a media blackout over the ‘Svengate’ affair.

After a fortnight of statement and counter-statement which has resulted in one of the most embarrassing PR shambles in living memory, Soho Square officials, fearful of prejudicing their own enquiry have decided against making a statement or public pronouncement on today’s comings and goings at FA headquarters.

It means the futures of England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson, FA chairman Geoff Thompson and communications director Colin Gibson, who offered his resignation last night, remain shrouded in mystery.

A statement form the FA read: “Due to the ongoing enquiry that was announced last week the Football Association is unable to provide any conclusive comment at this moment.

“We fully understand the huge interest and demand for an FA statement and will of course issue any definitive update as soon as we are in a position to do so.”
