Derry City may swoop for Kenny

Derry City could move to appoint Stephen Kenny just days after he was axed as Bohemians manager.

The Brandywell side have been managerless since Gavin Dykes quit at the end of May with veteran defender Peter Hutton in temporary charge ever since.

City looked to have found a permanent successor in June but former boss Felix Healy opted to stay in charge of first division Finn Harps. The club then seemed to backtrack over appointing Jimmy McGeough and stated it would wait until the end of the 2004 campaign before hiring a new man.

But the new availability of Kenny since his Wednesday evening sacking by Bohs may have prompted a rethink.

Kenny is said to have supporters among the Derry City directors, who have been impressed by the way he took Longford Town into the premier division and then landed a league title with Bohs in his first full season.
