Former England midfielder Paul Gascoigne claims he is 100% sure he will take up Boston’s offer and join the League Two club as player-coach.

Pilgrims boss Steve Evans and chairman Jon Sotnick have been holding talks with the former Tottenham, Lazio and Rangers man for a number of weeks in a bid to lure him to York Street.

The 37-year-old made his debut for the League Two side against one of his former clubs, Newcastle, on Tuesday and should complete the deal on Friday.

Gascoigne said: “The chairman is happy and I am happy. I am 110% sure I will sign for Boston United.

“I have spent a great 48 hours with Steve (Evans), even his wife is looking after me by buying me a pair of trainers. It has opened my eyes a bit in terms of wanting to play football again.”

Sotnick was impressed by Gascoigne’s performance against the Magpies and is confident the deal will shortly be completed.

He said: “These things are not simple negotiations. Everyone’s agreed in principle and now we have to lay out the logistics of what Paul wants to achieve with Boston United.

“We are forming a good relationship with Paul. He’s conducted himself impeccably so far and I’m very optimistic.”
