Olympic-bound Cahill misses Premiership kick-off

Everton’s new signing Tim Cahill will definitely miss the start of the Barclays Premiership season after linking up with the Australia squad for the forthcoming Athens Olympics.

The midfielder, who joined the Toffees in a £2m (€3m) transfer from Millwall, is expected to feature in the Olyroos’ warm-up match against South Korea on Friday.

It had been expected that Cahill, who would be suspended for the Blues’ first three matches in any event, would be a part of Frank Farina’s Olympic squad.

The side will fly to Greece to begin their tournament preparations on Saturday.
