Dolan discusses move with Foley
Cork City representatives have met with former Irish international striker Dominic Foley on two occasions in the last week with a view to bringing the player to Turner’s Cross.
Foley, who is in the last year of his contract with Portuguese side Sporting Braga, held discussions with City manager Pat Dolan and the club’s Technical Director Liam Murphy prior to their departure to France last week.
Foley, who has four senior international caps and two goals signed for Braga from Watford in 2003 and is now mulling over Cork City’s interest.
The striker is also believed to have met with representatives from Bohs while Shelbourne are also believed to be interested in meeting him.
“Pat (Dolan) and I both met with Dominic on two separate occasions but they were general discussions more than anything else,” explained Liam Murphy to the Evening Echo.
“Dominic has a year to run in his contract with Sporting Braga but there is a get-out clause that would allow him to leave before that date.
“We made out interest clear to him and he has gone back to Portugal to begin pre-season training and to mull over his future,” Murphy added.
Foley, who made his first full start for Ireland in Boston against the USA in 2000, joined Watford on a free transfer form Wolves in July 1999 and has expressed a tentative desire to return home to Cork.
“Dominic has to first decide whether or not he wants to come back to Ireland but I would hope if he decided to take that route, a move back to Cork would be preferable.
“If he decides to come back home we will sit down with him again and speak in more specific terms," Murphy added.
