Arsenal enjoy 10-1 friendly win

Premiership champions Arsenal stormed to a 10-1 victory over Nationwide Conference side Barnet this afternoon as Jose Reyes and Francis Jeffers both hit hat-tricks.

Dutch midfielder Robin van Persie made his debut for the Gunners and struck a superb goal just before the half-hour mark.

Spanish goalkeeper Manuel Almunia was also given a chance to impress as Dennis Bergkamp (two) and Quincy Owusu-Abeyie scored the Gunners’ other goals.

Mateja Kezman marked his Chelsea debut with a goal as the Blues recovered from a goal down to draw 1-1 at Oxford.

The Coca-Cola League Two side took a first-half lead through journeyman striker Tommy Mooney but the recruit from PSV had the last word, finishing off from 10 yards after Felipe Oliveira picked him out.

Kezman hit the crossbar in the first half and the post in the second, so deserved his goal as Jose Mourinho avoided defeat in his first match in charge.

Tottenham ended their Scandinavian training camp with a 1-0 defeat to Swedish side FC Trollhattan as midfielder Pedro Mendes and goalkeeper Marton Fulop made their Spurs debuts, while Norwich warmed up for their return to the Premiership by beating the Malaysian national side 1-0 in Kuala Lumpur.

Mathias Svensson scored the only goal, heading home Jim Brennan’s cross.

Everton’s reserves were held 2-2 by Southport at Haig Avenue.
