Former Leeds United striker Brian Deane may be set for a return to Elland Road after travelling to Sweden with the rest of the squad for their pre-season tour.

Deane will be accompanied by fellow trialists Steve Guppy and Craig Hignett.

The former Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and Benfica striker and ex-Leicester, Middlesbrough and Blackburn midfielder Hignett have both been training with United this week.

Deane, who made 131 league starts for United between 1993 and 1997, is looking for a new club after he was released at the end of last season by West Ham, while Hignett is on the move from Crewe.

Guppy is available on a Bosman free after joining Leicester in January for a second spell and could be brought in to fill the left-wing position.

The trio will all be looking to impress at the club’s base just inside the Arctic circle when they play two games against local opposition.
