Cheyrou completes Marseille loan deal
Liverpool midfielder Bruno Cheyrou has joined Marseille on a year-long loan deal.
The 26-year-old, who has three caps for France and joined the Reds in 2002 from Lille, played only 12 matches last campaign.
Marseille coach Jose Anigo’s persistence in trying to bring Cheyrou to the Stade Velodrome persuaded the midfielder to move instead of trying his luck under new Reds boss Rafael Benitez.
“I had to see if I wanted to opt to stay under a new coach or if I wanted to go to another club. So I opted for a change,” he told the official club website, www.liverpoolfc.tv.
“Jose Anigo told me that he really wanted me to play. It was good to know a coach was really counting on me.”
Anigo was delighted with Cheyrou’s capture.
He said: “He has a good left foot, he’s athletic and he’s able to score with headers.”
