Larsson: I won't stop scoring

Henrik Larsson has vowed to carry on scoring the goals that earned him a move to Barcelona after being unveiled as the Catalan giants’ third summer signing today.

The former Celtic striker has agreed a one-year deal at the Nou Camp, with the option of a second year, joining fellow new-boys Ludovic Giuly and Juliano Belletti.

Larsson scored 240 goals in his seven years in Glasgow and marked his return from international retirement by hitting the target three times for Sweden at Euro 2004.

Now the 33-year-old has, paraded by the club today, has promised Barca fans they can expect more of the same.

He told the club website, www.fcbarcelona.com: “I have taken part in World Cups and European Championships. I have played in front of solid defences and I have always scored goals.

“The only thing I can tell you is that I have not come here for a holiday. I will give everything I can – always fighting until the end.”

The 2001 European Golden Boot winner admitted it was a tough decision to end his love affair with Celtic but is looking forward to a new adventure in Spain.

He added: “I will always carry Celtic in my heart but now I am starting a new challenge.

“There will no doubt be a lot of pressure at Barca but I like it and I am used to it.

“I have completed a dream. I like to play in a team like this because I know what it means. I experienced it in Scotland.”

Larsson also admitted he was looking forward to playing with Ronaldinho and labelled the Brazilian as “world class”.

Barca president Joan Laporta is delighted with the capture of a clinical finisher and has no doubt that Larsson will be a huge hit.

He said: “He has one of the most important virtues, which is goal-scoring.

“The technical staff believe he was a necessary addition and with his signing Barca have signed goals.”
