Everton determined to keep Rooney
Everton chief executive Trevor Birch has revealed the club will offer Wayne Rooney a new deal to try to keep him at Goodison Park.
The England striker has been linked with Manchester United and Chelsea after starring in Euro 2004, where he scored four goals before breaking a bone his foot during the quarter-final defeat to hosts Portugal.
But Birch is determined to keep him at Everton and is willing to offer 18-year-old Rooney an improved deal.
“We will be sitting down with Wayne and his agent to offer him a new contract to stay at Everton,” Birch told the News of the World. “We do not want him to leave.”
