Cork fear Malmo revenge
Cork City face a Malmo side tomorrow that were an embarrassment to their club last weekend.
Malmo travelled to Cork with a weakened squad for the first leg of their Intertoto Cup clash, which they subsequently lost 3-1 but coach Tom Prahl has promised City will see a different Malmo side in the Malmo Stadion tomorrow.
“We must turn things around,” Prahl said.
“The players must show more emotion, more heart and more courage like Cork showed in the first leg. We were embarrassing to watch in Cork.
“We played the ball around too slowly in midfield and we must play a quicker game for the return leg.”
Prahl has picked his strongest starting line-up.
Former Bayern Munich and Barcelona midfielder, Patrik Anderson will start and add impetus to an impoverished attack where Berang Safari loses his place to Darko Lukanovic.
Norwegian full-back Jon Inge Hoiland will start at right-back.
Anderson, who was injured for the first leg, was surprised at the result in Ireland.
“This is our only route to the UEFA Cup, so this competition is very important to us,” he said.
“We must get a positive result from this game and another victory is important to the image of Malmo,” Anderson added.
City boss Pat Dolan will be hoping his side play with the same fervour and passion as they did in the first leg and not as they played on Tuesday night.
Then they lost their 11-match unbeaten run with a 1-0 home defeat to Bohemians in the eircom League.
“We played poorly on Tuesday night and we missed lots of chances,” Pat Dolan said.
“Maybe some of the players had their eye on the return game in Malmo but tomorrow we will need to be at our best. It will be all about concentration.”
City trained twice yesterday and again earlier today and are confident they can pull off another shock.
“The mood in the camp has been fantastic all season. We are going probably where no other side has gone before. This is the challenge but we are looking forward to it.”
