Drogheda ready for action after break

Drogheda United return to action tonight (7.30pm) at Longford Town with manager Paul Doolin grateful for a one-week lay-off.

Cork City’s involvement in the InterToto Cup last weekend saw the Drogs’ match with the Leesiders postponed and Doolin has seen midfielders Barry Molloy and Mark Quinless take advantage of the extra rest to get fully fit.

Molloy returns to the fray at Flancare Park tonight after three weeks out with a twisted ankle; Quinless, who missed United’s last outing, the 2-2 home draw with Shelbourne, is fit again following a viral infection.

“I never like to have games in hand,” Doolin said, “but having last weekend off has been a blessing in disguise. Now we’re back on the road again and nearly all fit again.”

The exception is another midfielder, Alan Reilly, who suffered a setback on his return from medial knee ligament damage and is in need of two weeks’ rest.

Hosts Longford are without midfielder Barry Ferguson, who is serving a one-match suspension.
