Waterford welcome back Quitongo
Peter Hutton could be taking charge in his last game as Derry City’s caretaker manager when the Premier Division strugglers go to Waterford United tonight (7.30pm).
With City poised to appoint former Waterford boss Jimmy McGeough as successor to Gavin Dykes, who resigned at the end of May, defender Hutton plays his fifth game at the helm.
The former Shels player will continue in Derry’s central defence as Sean Hargan continues to sit out with a stomach injury in a game City must win to capitalise on relegation rivals Dublin City’s 4-0 defeat to Shamrock Rovers last night.
Mark Farren has overcome a groin strain and is likely to partner Alan Murphy up front.
McGeough’s successor at Waterford, Hutton’s fellow player-boss Alan Reynolds, will give a start to Angolan born winger Jose Quitongo who rejoined the club last week having played at the RSC during the mid-nineties.
Reynolds must plan without midfielder Wayne Fitzgerald who is just beginning his rehabilitiation from cartilidge surgery.
