UK hooligan 'ringleader' faces deportation

A man described by Portuguese police as a ringleader of the English football hooligans involved in rioting on the Algarve works as a fireman in Kent.

Garry Mann was facing deportation and a two-year jail sentence after a fast-track court hearing yesterday.

Mann, aged 47, a Birmingham City fan, lives in a house attached to the fire station with his girlfriend.

He proclaimed his innocence and appeared to point angrily at someone in the public gallery before being handcuffed and led away by military police.

Mann, who has the St George’s cross tattooed on his forearm, claimed: “I wasn’t even there. It’s a stitch-up.”
