Benitez set for Liverpool switch

Liverpool could appoint Rafa Benitez as their new manager in the next 24 hours, according to local press reports.

The Liverpool Daily Post believe the Spaniard, who stood down as coach of Valencia, is very close to succeeding Gerard Houllier as manager and was in the city last night.

Benitez, who won the Primera Liga title and the UEFA Cup last season, is now available after serving a 15-day notice period following his resignation from the Spanish club.

The Daily Post believes Benitez’s appointment could be announced on the club’s official website, www.liverpoolfc.tv, later today.
