Birmingham owner David Sullivan has revealed that Chelsea have the option to recall striker Mikael Forssell from his loan spell in the January transfer window.

A similar stipulation was written into the Finland international’s contract last season, but then manager Claudio Ranieri did not activate the clause.

Sullivan told The People: “Chelsea do have the option of a January recall on Mikael but this is only so they can play him – it would be for their own use and no-one else’s.

“They could not loan him to another Premiership club, for example.

“Mikael was very important to us last season. Obviously, we hope that Chelsea do not have cause to call him back.

“I don’t expect that they will. Something tells me they will be signing a couple of players in the next couple of months.”
