Vikings hope to plunder points in Drogheda

Dublin City manager John Gill is praying for the day when he has a fully-fit squad but for now he has to patch up his troops as the bottom club take on Drogheda United at Tolka Park tonight (7.45pm).

High-flying Drogs were brought to earth with a bump on Monday night with a 3-0 thumping at Bohemians but that will be no comfort for Gill, who has just one fit defender, Pierre Ennis, at his disposal.

Wes Byrne could join him in the back four if he passes a late fitness test but Thomas McGauley, Tony O'Connor, Alan Keely and Derek Griffin are absent through injury while former youths international Keith Foy is touch and go with a chest infection.

The Vikings are four points adrift at the foot of the Premier Division table as a consequence of their midweek loss and his injury-hit defence is further dented by the loss of Ben Whelehan to a one-match ban.

“I’d feel far more confident with a fully fit back four,” Gill said following the Brandywell defeat. “Not to make any excuses, but I truly feel we’d be alright if I had my squad fully fit.”
