Ziege signs for 'Gladbach

German international Christian Ziege has signed a two-year deal with Borussia Monchengladbach after being released by Tottenham.

The 32-year-old was a surprise inclusion in Rudi Voller’s squad for the forthcoming European Championships in Portugal, and has now also received the added boost of finding a new club.

Gladbach’s sports director Christian Hochstatter said: “I’m pleased he decided to join us. Another left-footed player will certainly help us and he also adds a great deal of international experience.”

Ziege told his new club’s official website, www.borussia.de: “I’ve had offers from Bundesliga and foreign sides as well as clubs who would have been able to pay more money than Borussia.

“But I don’t want to gamble. I want to play football. After a long injury break, that is the most important thing for me.

“It’s not good to pick a side only because they pay more money than everyone else. Other things are on the top of the priority list.”

Ziege spent almost all of last season out injured while at Spurs, from whom he joined from Liverpool in 2001.

The wing-back also played for Middlesbrough, AC Milan and Bayern Munich.
