Dunfermline interested in Clemente

Dunfermline chairman John Yorkston revealed today that he will interview former Spain coach Javier Clemente within the next few days if the club can afford his wage demands.

One of the East End Park board directors was trying to contact the colourful 54-year-old to discover his value.

But the former Athletic Bilbao, Atletico Madrid, Marseille, Real Sociedad and Espanyol boss is desperate for a crack at British football and is not wanting a king’s ransom.

Yorkston told the Press Association: “One of our directors is trying to speak to him today.

“We will then decide whether there is enough common ground for him to go over and us to go and see him.

“The reason I’m saying enough common ground is if he is wanting £1m (€1.49m) a year he is not going to get the job.

“If we say one and he says 10 then we are too far apart and if we say three and he says four then we can talk.”

Yorkston has already sat down for a discussion with Pars coach Sandy Clark and former Livingston boss Davie Hay.

But he will interview Hay, Richard Gough and two mystery late candidates - believed to be from Eric Black, John Robertson and Stan Ternent – possibly after Clemente.

Yorkston continued: “We have to still meet four different people and there might be a fifth but I’ve still got to find out more details but then we will take it from there.

“The interviews will be the end of the week. There are people on holidays and we will try to speak to them and get them in.

“Most of them have been disclosed and there are a couple of late comers to the race and they appeared yesterday afternoon and we’re looking at them as well.

“I am trying to get the furthest away ones in first so then we can see.

“Davie Hay is no secret and I spoke to him last night and no disrespect to Davie if someone is travelling a fair distance you’ve got to try and get them in first.

“I’ve already spoken to Sandy and he goes away on holiday on Wednesday so I spoke to him this morning and he is aware of the situation.

“We don’t really need to do a further interview with Sandy because we know him enough and we had a one-to-one Sunday morning.”
