Ronaldo will be available for Manchester United’s opening game of next season after the first of his two yellow cards against Aston Villa, in the final match of the last campaign, was rescinded by referee Rob Styles.

The Portuguese winger was initially cautioned for diving and his second yellow card came towards the end of the game when Ronaldo delayed the restart by kicking the ball away.

The caution for diving has been scrapped because it appeared Ronaldo effectively tripped over his own feet accidentally and did not seek to gain an advantage by falling down.

Darren Fletcher was also sent-off for two yellow cards but the midfielder’s one-game ban for the start of next season stands.
