Cocu makes return to PSV
PSV Eindhoven have confirmed the signing of Holland midfielder Phillip Cocu from Barcelona.
Cocu, who was out of contract at the Nou Camp, has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the club he left six years ago.
The Dutch international had attracted interest from England but, when he moved to the Catalan outfit, Cocu made a gentleman’s agreement with PSV that if he ever left the Primera Liga club, he would let Eindhoven be the first to speak to him.
PSV’s departing chairman Harry van Raaij could not hide his delight at the signing when he said: “Our lost son has returned.”
The 33-year-old was linked with a move to the Premiership but he wanted to find another club before the Holland team jetted over to Portugal for the European Championships, and PSV were quick to pounce.
