Drogheda go second with win at Derry

Goals early and late moved Drogheda up to second in the table as Derry’s sad season continued with a sixth game on the spin without a goal.

Patrick Jennings saved a first minute penalty, but to no avail as Derry slumped to a third home defeat.

Jennings saved Andy Myler’s spot kick after Paddy McLaughlin had pulled down Declan O’Brien.

Drogheda then went ahead on 16 minutes with Reilly shooting home a Mark Quinless cross.

In a lively game Derry striker Alan Murphy then cracked a deflected free-kick off the Drogheda bar on the half hour.

But that was as good as it got for Derry as O’Brien sealed Drogheda’s win on 70 minutes, punishing a mistake by Clive Delaney to drill home.
