Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane is hoping to have double cause for celebration on Thursday when he wins his 50th cap as also has the chance to become his country’s leading goalscorer.

The 23-year-old Tottenham forward has netted 19 times in 49 appearances for the Republic and lies just two behind Niall Quinn.

Keane is level with John Aldridge, Tony Cascarino and Don Givens while, former Arsenal and Manchester star Frank Stapleton is one ahead of the quartet on 20.

Niall Quinn holds the record with 21 goals.
