Four goals for Wales in Four Nations

Ireland's interest in the Four Nations tournament has come to an end following a 4-1 defeat to Wales at Harlaw Park, Inverurie. Wales must now wait on the outcome of Scotland's clash with England at Banff, with the Scots needing to better Wales' result to claim the trophy on home soil.

Ireland took the lead in the first minute of the second half. John Lester's corner was cleared only as far as Hugh Davey, whose half-volley from 30 yards sailed into the top corner and must be a contender for goal of the tournament.

Wales should have equalised on 52 minutes when Gallagher saved well from Ben Davies who should have done better when put through by Ryan Green.

John Flood replaced Willie Doyle on 54 minutes, while for Wales Graham Evans replaced Chris Summers on 60 and scored with his first touch, heading Ben Davies' free from the right into the top left-hand corner, leaving Ireland 'keeper Gallagher with no chance.

Alan Byrne received a booking on 63 minutes. Gerard Rowe came on for Ger O'Brien on 68 minutes.

Wales took the lead on 71 minutes. Chris Todd scored at the far post from Ryan Green's low cross from the right of the penalty area. Wales then doubled their lead within a minute, when Chris Giles stretched to toe-poke home Ben Davies' free-kick from the right.

Killian Brennan replaced John Lester on 78 minutes.

Chris Giles scored his second on 79 minutes. Graham Evans' low strike came back off the base of Gallagher's left-hand upright and the TNS striker was on hand to slot the ball home at the near post and past the diving Gallagher.

Steve Evans replaced goalscorer Giles on 80 minutes. Giles ran off to loud applause from the Welsh contingent at Harlaw Park.
