Ireland's Barry Quinn is among the casualties as new Coventry manager Peter Reid wielded the axe at Highfield Road by releasing nine players.

Another Irish starlet, Ruaidhri Higgins, will also leave the club.

Reid, installed as Eric Black’s replacement a fortnight ago, has ditched goalkeepers Pegguy Arphexad and Gavin Ward as well as Barry Quinn, Dean Gordon and Onandi Lowe.

They have all been told their contracts will not be renewed when they expire over the summer.

Reserve team players Higgins, Michael Briscoe, Avun Jephcott and Hussain Yazdani have also been told their Sky Blues careers are at an end.

Negotiations over the futures of striker Julian Joachim and defender Richard Shaw continue.
