Waterford closed the gap on leaders Shels - beaten 3-0 at Shamrock Rovers - but at a cost of injuries to player/boss Alan Reynolds and striker Willie Bruton.

Both Reynolds and Bruton had to come off during the game but Drogheda couldn’t press home their advantage, failing to score for the third game running.

Paul Doolin’s side had the best chances which came early on, with Declan O’Brien first heading wide and then sending a volley past Dan Connor’s post.
