Football legend Diego Maradona was back on a respirator today, doctors said.

The 43-year-old was admitted to the Suizo Argentina Clinic in Buenos Aires a week ago suffering from hypertension and breathing problems – later diagnosed as a lung infection.

The former Argentina international was taken off the machine to see how his body would react but, only a few hours later, the medics decided to intubate him and turn on the machine again after he showed signs of breathing difficulties.

“The latest analysis does not show any further complication,” said an official statement from the clinic about the former Napoli and Barcelona player was admitted.

“The progress, although it is positive, will be slow and hard due to the seriousness of his condition.”
