Brazil call-up for Edu

Brazil boss Carlos Alberto Parreira has called up Arsenal’s Edu for the friendly international against Hungary on April 28.

It had been claimed the 25-year-old midfielder was interested in playing for England after thinking his chances of playing for his country were over.

He was due to qualify for England later this year under FIFA’s new residency rules.

“I know it would be possible for me to play for England – and I am thinking about that,” Edu said recently. “Like every player I would like to be involved at international football. And if Brazil don’t pick me, then why not?”

But FA officials stated that Edu would first have to become a British citizen before playing for England.

Meanwhile, Manchester United midfielder Kleberson has been omitted from the squad as he is currently out injured.
