Arveladze's thoughts turn to Ajax

Rangers striker Shota Arveladze is considering a possible return to his former club Ajax.

Rangers striker Shota Arveladze is considering a possible return to his former club Ajax.

The Georgian international joined the Light Blues from the Amsterdam giants in the summer of 2001.

Arveladze, who is currently recuperating from knee surgery, told Georgian newspaper Olimpi: “I have two options. Either I sign a new deal at Rangers or I will consider Ajax’s offer.

“Ronald Koeman has informed me he wants me back at the club as a back-up player.

“It would be up to me then to show the coach that I should be a first-team pick.

“I am not sure whether Rangers will come through with a new contract for me.

“If that is the case, or we can’t reach an agreement on financial terms, then I can see myself returning to Ajax. I had a good time with them previously.”
