Blues maintain winning start to season
Cork City 2 Waterford United 3
Waterford maintained their bright start to the season with this superb win to go joint top of the table.
In a blitzkrieg start to the game City went in front after just 18 seconds.
No Blues player touched the ball as City tipped off and Colin O’Brien crossed from the right for Kevin Doyle to fire home.
Blues rallied and levelled on 20 minutes when substitute Billy Woods, on the pitch just minutes, pulled down Willie Bruton and Daryl Murphy slotted home the spot kick.
A Danny Murphy free-kick restored City’s lead on 23 minutes.
But Blues levelled again on 41 minutes when Kevin Waters’ shot deflected to the net off City defender Willie Byrne.
Pat Purcell then struck what proved the winner in first half stoppage time, stabbing home player/boss Alan Reynolds' free kick.
