Hyypia keen to stay at Anfield
Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia has declared his intent to remain at Anfield, despite the club’s miserable season.
Although centre-back Hyypia has another two years to run on his current contract, the Finland international would be happy to sign another extension.
Hyypia, who has spent the last five years with the Reds following a £3m (€4.5m) move from Willem II in 1999, said: “If they want me to stay, I would have no problem in signing another contract.
“Liverpool are a great club and I have an excellent rapport with the fans. I am very happy where I am now.”
The 30-year-old feels confident Liverpool will clinch fourth place in the Premiership this season and with it a spot in next season’s Champions League, but knows if successful, it will not detract from what has been an underachieving campaign.
“It has not been a very positive season for Liverpool, but I am confident that we will reach our Champions League target,” added Hyypia on the club’s official website, www.liverpoolfc.tv.
“Qualifying for the Champions League will not save our season but it will provide some consolation.”
