Scunthorpe manager Brian Laws has left the Third Division club by mutual consent following a meeting today.

Laws, the sixth longest-serving manager in English football, had been in charge at Glanford Park for seven years since taking over from Mick Buxton.

He guided the Iron to promotion to the Second Division in the 1998/99 season, following a play-off victory over Leyton Orient.

However they were relegated the following year and last season were beaten in the play-off semi-finals by Lincoln.

A run of four successive defeats has left Scunthorpe only six points clear of the relegation zone, with Tuesday’s 3-2 loss at home to bottom-club Carlisle his last at the helm.

Assistant boss Russ Wilcox will take charge for the home game with Orient on Saturday.
