Duncan disorderly could face hefty fine

Duncan Ferguson could face a fine as well as a lengthy ban for his misdemeanours at Leicester on Saturday.

The striker was sent off for two bookings at the Walkers Stadium, then grabbed City’s Steffen Freund around the throat and gestured to home supporters upon leaving the field.

Club rules state that anyone who is dismissed receives a fine of a fortnight’s wages.

And the Football Association could take further action once they have viewed referee Barry Knight’s report and taken video evidence into account.

Ferguson had already received his marching orders when he attacked Freund. A red card for violent conduct carries an automatic three-match ban and the Scottish striker faces the prospect of his one-game suspension being increased drastically.

The 32-year-old, currently under investigation by the FA’s compliance unit for alleged racist comments to Fulham’s Luis Boa Morte, could also have his Everton fine doubled, while manager David Moyes has yet to decide whether further disciplinary measures are necessary.

“I am not totally convinced it was a sending-off but what Duncan did afterwards was unacceptable,” Moyes told the Liverpool Echo. “I am disappointed in that.”

Ferguson was recently handed the captain’s armband when Alan Stubbs was sidelined through injury and retained his position despite the centre-back’s return.

With one man short for the entire second period, Everton were denied an away win against the odds against Micky Adams’ team by a last-minute equaliser.

And Stubbs was critical of official Knight’s handling of the 1-1 draw.

“It was hard enough to play with 10 men but to play against 12 didn’t make it any easier,” Stubbs told www.evertonfc.com.

“It felt like it was one rule for us and another for them. Their players were getting away with everything we didn’t. The referee showed no consistency at all.

“I kicked Les Ferdinand a few times and they got the foul every time, yet Duncan was getting exactly the same treatment and got nothing. I find it hard to believe he can be pulled up for persistent misconduct when he’s got four players around him all the time trying to knock him out of his stride.

“He is a physical player, that’s Duncan’s game, but he suffers by reputation and gets absolutely no protection from referees.”
