England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has expressed his frustration at the blocking of plans to introduce a winter break.

Eriksson has been calling for a two-week break in January for some time and had persuaded the Football Association and Barclaycard Premiership clubs to back the idea.

To create room in the calendar replays in the fifth and sixth rounds of the FA Cup would need to be scrapped and the FA Challenge Cup committee this week voted down the proposal.

Eriksson told BBC Radio Five Live: “I am extremely disappointed by that. I don’t really understand why that committee went against it. But that’s life, we have to accept it.”
