Manchester United have been given a welcome lift with the news the injury Cristiano Ronaldo sustained in Tuesday’s match against Porto is not serious.

The 19-year-old Portuguese winger was caught just above his right knee in a hefty challenge from Nuno Valente, minutes after coming on as a substitute against Porto on Tuesday.

But the club’s official website, www.manutd.com, revealed a scan revealed no break or serious damage.

The 19-year-old remains a doubt for Sunday’s derby at Manchester City, but news of no long-term damage eases an ever-increasing list of casualties at Old Trafford including Mikael Silvestre, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Quinton Fortune.
