Liverpool will be without Anthony Le Tallec for tomorrow’s UEFA Cup fourth round, first leg against Marseille at Anfield.

The French teenager suffered torn ankle ligaments in a reserve match this week and a scan has confirmed he will be out for around a month.

But Le Tallec’s countryman Florent Sinama-Pongolle, who made his return to the reserves on Monday after an ankle injury, has a chance of being involved in the squad for the visit of the French club.

Czech midfielder Vladimir Smicer is struggling with an Achilles injury and has been in France having treatment.

Provisional squad: Kirkland, Finnan, Henchoz, Hyypia, Carragher, Murphy, Gerrard, Hamann, Kewell, Cheyrou, Baros, Owen, Heskey, Pongolle, Biscan, Traore, Dudek, Welsh, Diouf, Diao.
