Sunderland today issued an apology after a minority of their fans disrupted a minute’s silence for Welsh legend John Charles at Cardiff on Saturday.

Players and supporters from both clubs paid tribute to the former Leeds and Juventus star following his death earlier that day at the age of 72, but a section of the travelling fans at Ninian Park did not observe the silence, sparking an angry reaction from those who did.
