Mutu on target for Romania
Adrian Mutu scored twice as Romania outclassed Georgia 3-0 at the Cyprus International Tournament, which also features the hosts, Belarus, Hungary, Latvia, Kazakhstan and Armenia.
Mutu, who has struggled to score regularly for Chelsea, proved he can find the back of the net for his country with a goal in each half while Florin Cernat scoring a late third.
Elsewhere on the island, Southampton’s Marian Pahars scored his country’s first as Latvia came from behind to beat Kazakhstan 3-1.
The Kazakhs, only admitted to UEFA last year after defecting from the Asian confederation, took the lead through Youri Aksenov.
But Pahars’ equaliser followed by a Jurijs Laizans double secured a win for the Euro 2004 underdogs.
Cyprus lost on home soil, going down 2-0 Belarus and new Hungary coach Lothar Matthaus saw his charges beat Armenia by the same scoreline.
Beitar Jerusalem striker Shlomo Arbeitman scored a hat-trick on his international debut as Israel hammered Azerbaijan 6-0.
