Pole chases Anfield goal

Polish striker Sebastian Olszar is hoping manager Harry Redknapp gives him the chance to fulfil his dream of scoring the winning goal at Anfield.

Olszar, 22, has been restricted to playing for the reserves since completing a surprise move to Fratton Park from Austrian side Admira Wacker during the transfer window.

But the striker will be among the substitutes for Portsmouth’s FA Cup fifth-round clash against Liverpool tomorrow with Teddy Sheringham injured and on-loan Newcastle star Lomana LuaLua cup-tied and is desperate to show what he can do.

Olszar, a Poland Under-21 international, said: “We’ll see what the manager says but I would love to play.

“It would be great to make my debut at Liverpool. Going to Anfield to play against people like Michael Owen would be very special.

“The FA Cup is a great competition and everyone knows about it all around the world.

“In other countries cups are not always seen as being important but that is not the case in this country.

“I know the Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek from my times with the Polish Under-21 team when he’s been with the full squad. I’d love to play against him and score.”

Goalkeeper Shaka Hislop was a key member of Portsmouth’s side that beat Liverpool 1-0 in the Premiership in October but knows that they are capable of scoring goals from all over the pitch.

Hislop said: “They have some world-class players that can hurt you from anywhere.

“With the likes of Gerrard, Owen, Heskey and Kewell in their team, they have a number of players who are great threats.

“But the important thing is that you can’t risk worrying about one player because then you take your eye off another. It makes no sense when you’re playing against a team like that.”

Pompey have reached the last 16 in very low-key fashion – beating Blackpool and Scunthorpe – before this Anfield glamour tie.

“This is the first time we’ve played against a Premiership side in the cup this season and we know it is a big challenge,” Hislop added.

“We’ve not won away from home in the league yet and this would be the perfect time to end that run – especially as we play Liverpool in the Premiership next weekend.”

Defender Arjan de Zeeuw is hoping he gets the chance to face one of the Premiership’s fearsome foursome tomorrow.

The Dutchman has already tested himself against Thierry Henry, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Alan Shearer this season and now wants to go head to head with Michael Owen.

“I noticed Michael Owen has started scoring again. I thought ‘Oh dear!’,” he said.

“It’ll be hard – but it’s always going to be hard against Michael Owen anyway, whether he’s in form or not. He’s a top-class striker.

“But if you want to play in the Premiership, you want to play against the best players and he’s certainly one of the best,” he told the Portsmouth News.
